The Every-Day Makeup Look with #StayMatteSwitch

Just to preface this blog post....I apparently really suck at make-up tutorials. Like, forreal. So, I apologize in advance for all the wonky pictures and weird facial expressions. I am just a super awkward person and it seems to show through when I'm trying to look relatively normal ;) For fun, I wanted to show you what my every day makeup routine consists of and how I go from fresh-faced to ready-to-face-the-day in 5 minutes tops!

So, without further ado, I am going to show you how I create this Every-Day makeup look with Rimmel London's #StayMatteSwitch foundation plus all my other favorite makeup products!

Here are the products used...

Apparently I am also pretty rough with my makeup!

This is my face sans foundation, with nothing but concealer and a little bit of leftover eyeliner from the day before (oops!). You can see some uneven pigment, freckled, and a few blemishes. For some reason the computer screen is making my face look clearer than it is but trust me, there is definitely some redness and unevenness in pigment that you can see in this picture.

After applying concealer, I applied the Rimmel London Stay Matte foundation (my shade is Ivory), and  swept a light shimmery brown all over my eyelids. I don't always wear foundation, but on days when I need a little more coverage, I LOVE the Stay Matte foundation. It's super lightweight, goes on evenly, and the coverage can be adjusted from super-sheer to all-over coverage.

Next came apply a darker shimmery brown to the creases of my eyes and blending both shades together. I then used an eyeliner brush to apply the darkest brown shade of eyeshadow above my upper lash line, creating the smokey eye look. I also applied two coats of mascara to my eyelashes!

The final step was to apply a dark brown eyeliner to my lower waterline and put a little bit of lip color (via a lipstick crayon)...

So there ya have it, my "every day" makeup routine that literally takes me 5 minutes from start to finish!   I would love to hear what your "every day" beauty routine consists of, too :)

"Let's Do a Review!": Broadway Nails imPRESS Press-On Manicure

Happy Monday! :) I thought I'd get back into the swing of blogging by doing a short little review on a pretty awesome little product!

Today I'm going to be reviewing Broadway Nails imPRESS Press-On Manicure, a product I received as a part of the #UniVoxBox from Influenster! The #UniVoxVox is seriously my favorite VoxBox yet, and I will definitely be sharing the complete contents of the box within the next week. If you have no idea what Influenster is or what a VoxBox is, you are seriously missing out! By doing reviews and remaining active on social media, Influenster will reward you by sending you boxes of FREE STUFF to test out, try, and review. I've gotten three VoxBoxes so far (one I shared on here awhile back!), and I love getting to try out new products before they hit the shelves! If you want to learn more, check out their site here!

I am a serious beauty junkie, so I loved getting these nails in my newest VoxBox! Ive seen the imPRESS Press-On Manicure at my local drug stores + Wal-Mart, so I was so excited to finally try them out myself. If I was picking them out myself, I don't think I would have chosen such a "bold" pattern as Lovestruck, but it is definitely fun and "Spring-y"!

Can I just start off by saying how incredibly EASY these nails were to use?? All you have to do to apply them is peel off a little piece of plastic from the underside of the nail and stick it on your nail! THATS IT. No messy glue, no little plastic applicators that are awkward to use, and most importantly, NO drying time! All ya gotta do is peel, stick, and apply. Voila...perfect-looking nails in seconds! They really are a breeze to use.

The only downside to these nails is that they are pretty short. I had to file a few of my (not even that long) nails down so that they wouldn't show underneath the patterned nails. Or maybe I just hve freakishly long nail beds, who knows! Also, you have to file the tips of them after application to get ride of little jagged edges + to round off any harsh square edges.

The finished product...

I just applied these nails today, but overall, I am very happy with them! They are supposed to last up to a week, so I guess I'll find out if thats true within the next few days. They can be purchased at most drug stores, Wal-Marts, Targets, or anywhere that sells Broadway nail products! They cost around $6-$7 and are perfect for special occasions such as prom, weddings, etc. I definitely plan on purchasing them again when I want my nails to look nice but don't want to ruin my nails with acrylics!

Have you ever used Broadway impPRESS nails? What did you think of them?

hello, again.

Hello, there. I really can't believe I've been "gone" for two months. The past couple months have been full of tests, papers, wedding planning, and lots and lots of photography. I have been busier than ever but so, so happy. I thought it might be fun to do a little "catch up" post and tell you all the fun things I've been up to while away from blogging (as well as some wedding details, for those of you who like that stuff!)

my new obsession.
Starting with photography....I've truly found my passion and calling being a photographer, and I am so happy to announce I have FIVE weddings booked for this coming summer/fall, and even a wedding booked for spring 2015! The entire journey has been a rollercoaster ride of emotions...from trying to do taxes (and wanting to pull out my hair!) to venturing to downtown Pittsburgh to pick up my "new" camera, a Canon 5D Mark II. It was honestly a surreal moment buying my "dream" camera, and at a seriously awesome price! If you want to check out some of my work (and see how it's progressed in the past 6 or so months!) you can find my website at www.readysetsmilephotos.com or by "liking" my Facebook business page at www.facebook.com/readysetsmilephotos  :)

wedding planning essentials.
asking my older sister + best friend to be my Maids of Honor :)
We officially picked a wedding day and are anxiously looking forward to being married! We picked September 5th, 2015 (Labor Day weekend) so that we could always have a three day weekend for our anniversary and feel that more out-of-town guests will be willing to travel for our big day. Matty and I met with the caterer and picked out of menu, and it honestly may be my favorite part of the wedding! We are having MTO omelet stations, french toast, sausage, bacon, fresh fruit, a cereal bar, a donut cake, and (my favorite part)- a coffee bar!! Besides being crazy delicious, it is also crazy inexpensive, which makes inviting more friends and family not so stress inducing than if we were serving $35/person meals.

the cute little milk jars i picked up to use for the creamer for our coffee bar :)
I also bought my wedding dress (!!!) and in true Jenna fashion, it is "pre-loved" and absolutely beautiful. It is the exact same dress I mentioned in my last post, and I was able to find it at a crazy amazing price online. Plus, it needs no alterations other than having it hemmed, since I will be wearing flats. I would post a picture here, but I don't wanna take any chances ;)

I really do apologize for dropping off the radar. I do love blogging and want to continue it, but I want to do it on "my" schedule and post more about things that feel more like "me"...aka wedding posts and outfits posts! I know that as the weather warms up I (and Matt...) will be more willing to venture outside for outfit pictures and I hope to post some wedding DIYs on here as well.

Til next time,

wedding planning: the basics

First off, thank you so much to everyone who left such sweet, awesome comments on my last post! I am so excited to share all my wedding planning details on the blog :) I just thought I'd share some of the basic details I have planned for my day. As you can tell, I've actually been planning my wedding for a long time ;) Dating for that long does that to ya!

Theme: Not a "theme" per say, but Matty and I want to go all-out with a brunch/coffee theme. I am obsessed with love coffee and breakfast foods so we want to incorporate those loves into our wedding day!

Food: We will be holding our ceremony/reception early in the day (10:30 am ceremony, 11:30 reception) so we plan to have a feast of awesome breakfast foods! I'm talking made-to-order omelette and waffle bars, a coffee bar, mimosa bar, heaps of bacon/sausage, fruit parfaits...basically everything there is to love about breakfast.

Color Scheme: Navy blue, coral, light pink, and grey. Also some touches of brown (to incorporate coffee theme!)

Dress/Attire: I went dress shopping "just for fun" the other day with a close friend and basically fell n love with a dress already. It's absolutely gorgeous and wayyy within my dress budget (score!). I won't be ordering it for awhile, but it's awesome that I already found a huge element of my wedding! The bridesmaids will be in navy blue dresses, and the dudes will be wearing bow ties and suspenders. Casual and laid-back for a morning shin-dig!

Venue: To majorly cut costs back, Matt and I want to hold the entire wedding at my church back home in Lancaster. We have huge plans to decorate the church gym for the reception site so that it won't even look like a gym, and the breakfast theme means we don't need to go all out and book a country club that costs a bazillion dollars

As for WHEN we are going to to hitched, we don't have an exact date, but we do know for certain that it will be after we both graduate. So sometime in late 2015 (September-ish) we will finally be getting married! That gives me almost 2 full years to save money and plan this thing out entirely. And I absolutely cannot wait :)

"RING"ing in 2014...

This post only happens to be a week late, but...I'M ENGAGED! :)

Matty "popped the question" on January 5th in a tiny little gazebo surrounded by snow! It was absolutely perfect and everything I could have ever imagined. I would be lying if I said I had NO IDEA it was coming, as we just celebrated our 4 year anniversary last month. I had a hunch it would be happening before we came back to school, and when Matt told me had a "fun night" planned, I knew that I was going to be that night.

I am SO incredibly excited to start planning our wedding, but more importantly, our marriage. Right after he proposed (and I stopped crying...it took awhile) we discussed how much more we have to commit to the relationship we have with Christ and how much more seriously we have to take our own relationship. Even though I don't feel much different now that we engaged, we are definitely one step closer to marriage and I want us to be prepared for it!

Thank you so much to everyone who has congratulated us via Facebook/Instagram/whatever. We are so appreciative of everyone's love and support and we start planning for our future together :)

New Year, Fresh Start.

If it seems like forever since I've posted, that's probably because it has been. Don't get me wrong, I have still been going on Blogger every day and reading blogs. But writing for my own? Ha, this girl didn't have time for that. Aside from the lack of time, I just wasn't feeling blogging. I didn't feel inspired, I was bored with all my clothes, and just thinking about going out of my way to take a daily outfit picture seemed like torture. Dramatic, I know. I just felt like I lost who I was and the vision for my blog. I celebrated my 1st Blogiversary last week, and I completely forgot. Whoops. Bad blogger alert.

But 2014 is now upon us, and I feel like I have a fresh start, which is crazy exciting. I plan on posting more "many ways to wear it" series and featuring my daily outfits a few times a week, instead of feeling guilty for not posting them every single day. I am a college student, after all, and school does come first (even though I'd much rather be thinking up outfit ideas than studying for cognitive psych- ugh).

I want to get to "know" my fellow personal style bloggers more, and work on building more relationships with other young women who are into the whole style+college thing. I want to participate in link-ups, maybe do some collaborations, and maybe even do a few give-a-ways.

Basically, I want to make this blogging thing fun again. Because every girl desires a healthy outlet for all the craziness that happens in life. Plus, clothes are awesome. 2014, I am so ready for you....and Freckled Fashionista is, too.

that scarf I can't stop wearing.

Hello, blogging friends. Long time no blog...my b. I wish I had some awesome stories to tell you about why I was absent for a few weeks, but truthfully, it's almost the end of the semester so school has been my life and my creative fashion juices have not been flowin', so I've basically been wearing the same outfits over and over.

I did stumble upon my new favorite scarf at Wal-Mart a little while back and have been wearing it almost nonstop. I had been searching for a floral scarf for a while now and was so happy to have found it for $6.48....SCORE.

May I present the three outfits I wore over Thanksgiving break featuring my new floral scarf...

Love me some pattern mixing. Striped + floral = <3
Actual Thanksgiving day outfit!
Dressing up a plain forest green sweatshirt! Crappy quality a la Marriot Hotel bathroom selfie.

I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving filled with family, friends, and full bellies! I counted my blessings and had such a great time away from school work and stress. Only 10 more days until I am back home for a WHOLE MONTH for Christmas break. Hallelujah :)
